SIBUR will support 43 volunteering projects of employees and students

2 july 2021

Moscow, July 2, 2021. SIBUR has picked winners of contests of employees’ and students’ volunteering projects conducted within the framework of the Formula for Good Deeds social investment program. The company will support 43 volunteer projects in the second half of 2021.

A total of over 100 contest entries from 25 Russian cities had been submitted for consideration by an experts’ commission. Of these, 60 employees’ projects and 38 students’ projects ended up being short-listed. Experts representing SIBUR, regional non-profit organizations and the Formula for Good Deeds program took part in assessing the applications’ merits.

28 environmental initiatives were selected as the winners of the 7th Contest of Employees’ Volunteering Projects. SIBUR’s volunteers will conduct environmental workshops for orphans, hold creative upcycling classes for people with mental handicaps, create a sensory garden for children with autism spectrum disorders, and develop an online course for school student on separate waste collection.

In one of the participating cities, employees will build a map of local bodies of water, while in others they will hold garbage collection races together with local running enthusiasts, erect an urban art object made out of discarded materials left after welding jobs, pay visits to shelters for stray animals, and engage in other activities focusing on environmental issues and on improving natural and public spaces.

Based on the results of the 3rd contest of students’ projects, authors of 15 of the projects will receive financial support from the company and its Formula for Good Deeds program. The students will use their grants to teach geography through storytelling to children afflicted with the Down syndrome, organize creative classes for children with disabilities, beautify public spaces and set them up for extracurricular and leisure activities, renovate old timber houses, hold lectures and master classes advocating separate waste collection, set up battery collection points, and engage in other socially important initiatives.

Lists of the contests’ winners can be found in the attachment to this news piece.

The authors of the best completed projects and the most active volunteers of 2020 and 2021 will be invited to attend SIBUR’s 2nd Corporate Volunteering Forum in Moscow.

In July, authors of all winning projects will get recommendations from the experts of the Formula for Good Deeds program on how to proceed with further implementation of their projects and will receive cash grants for completing them in 2021. The maximum amount of a grant that can be provided to a project is RUB50,000.

Deadlines and further information about volunteer assistance needed for implementing a specific project can be obtained from the volunteering program’s coordinators:

Background:

The Formula for Good Deeds, SIBUR's social investment program was launched on February 1, 2016, in all key cities where the company has a presence. It has been focusing on six key areas that address the most important social issues such as urban development, education and science, sports and healthy living, environmental protection, culture, and volunteering.

SIBUR's Corporate Volunteering Program was launched on September 25, 2017, to be implemented in all cities where the company operates, as part of the Formula for Good Deeds, SIBUR’s social investment program. Centered around universal human values, the program brings together SIBUR’s employees, partners and residents of cities in SIBUR’s presence regions and engages them in implementing joint volunteering projects of social significance.

In 2017-2020, 150 projects from 25 cities – from St. Petersburg to Svobodny in Amur Oblast – were chosen as winners of grant contests for employees’ and students’ volunteering projects. SIBUR's volunteers have used the grants to hold city-wide environmental events to collect garbage and plastic waste, organize festivals and creative master classes for children going through a difficult period in their lives and for the elderly, and to implement animal conservation and protection campaigns.
