Tyumen Oblast’s schools and school forestry teams will receive SIBUR’s development grants

12 november 2021

SIBUR has taken stock of the results of a contest for the best environmental campaign held among Tyumen Oblast’s schools and school forestry teams. The contest’s winners will receive grants for expanding their forest conservation and restoration activities. The contest is being held by SIBUR together with Tyumen Oblast’s Forestry Department as part of the Formula for Good Deeds program’s Tobolsk Forest project.

This contest is a testament to the fact that Tyumen Oblast boasts many enthusiastic teachers who are keen on taking care of the region's forests working together with their students. We are very glad to reward these enthusiasts with our grants so that they can continue their socially important environmental campaigns, Elena Belskaya, Head of ZapSibNeftekhim LLC’s Department for Government Relations and Social and Economic Projects, commented.

The contest’s jury was made up of representatives of SIBUR, experts from the Formula for Good Deeds program and Tyumen Oblast’s Forestry Department.

It is especially gratifying to note that several of the contest’s applications featured systemic long-term year-round programs rather than one-off campaigns. This means that the region's school forestry teams continue to evolve and do a top-notch job. Therefore, this kind of grant support from SIBUR is very timely and relevant, Leonid Ostroumov, Director of Tyumen Oblast’s Forestry Department, commented.

The following six schools will be provided grants for their development:

  • Teachers and students of Tobolsk’s Secondary School 5 plan to set up educational and learning eco-stations on the school’s grounds.
  • There is a plant to establish a school forestry unit at Setovskaya Secondary School (Tobolsk District).
  • Active members of Berdyuzhye’s Secondary School’s forestry team (Berdyuzhsky District) will continue to work on forest inventory taking (evaluation of forest properties) using procured equipment.
  • Students of Varvarinskaya Secondary School (Yarkovsky District) intend to continue outreach work among the residents of the village of Varvara with a focus on prevention of forest dumps.
  • Students of School 92 (Tyumen) regularly clean up the forest that is adjacent to the city limits from garbage. In the future, such campaigns are going to be carried out every month.
  • Baikalovskaya Secondary School’s team of volunteers (Tobolsk District) is going to build an eco-trail on the grounds of the school park.

Our team of volunteers constantly keeps an eye on the cleanliness of our school park which has grown into a real forest. We decided to build an eco-trail in the park, build signs with the names of rare and medicinal plants, install direction signage and make park benches, Larisa Tretyak, leader of the "Avangard" volunteering group at Baikalovskaya Secondary School, noted.

Congratulations to the contest’s winners! Keep up the good work!
