Blagoveshchensk will see SIBUR implement a Smart Technologies program as part its Science Sessions

28 june 2021

On July 5 through 9, Blagoveshchensk will be hosting a new series of training events called Science Sessions for school students aged 11 through 14 who have shown an interest in scientific and technical subjects. The project is being implemented with SIBUR’s support as part of its social investment program, the Formula for Good Deeds, and with the support Blagoveshchensk District’s Department of Education in Republic of Bashkortostan.

The Smart Technologies program that will be implemented in Blagoveshchensk as part of the Science Sessions initiative is expected to introduce its participants to basic modeling concepts. Under the guidance of their experienced instructors, the students will try to implement in practice some of the state-of-the-art technological solutions that are used in smart home systems. At the class, working with soldering irons, boards and sensors, the students will be able to assemble various smart gadgets including a flashlight, a sensor switch, a light sensor, and a field sensor. In addition to attending the master classes, the participants of the Science Sessions will be offered video lessons, lectures, and contests.

Prior to the project’s launch, participating instructors will receive training on the course’s curriculum. Classes for 11- to 14-year-old students will be held on July 5 through 9 at School 5.

In developing our program, we tried to incorporate all the topics that are relevant for and most interesting to 21st century children. As a child, many of us were eager to learn more about how the various technologies we use work. How does a battery work? Or a wireless charger? Or can a light bulb light up right in one’s own hand? We tried to make sure that, by trial and error, the students would be able find all answers to these questions and then put together their first, but definitely not their last, gadgets at their own impromptu laboratory, Kseniya Zayets, the developer of the Smart Technologies course, noted.

At the moment, there are no pre-majoring technology classes available in Blagoveshchensk. Only students in grades 10 and 11 can choose to major in the field of technology. By virtue of holding such sessions for elementary school students, will are going to be able to offer them some kind of career guidance and early career guidance training to help them better prepare to choosing their future profession. This would be very relevant for students in Blagoveshchensk and in Blagoveshchensk District considering that most major companies in our region are technology-driven. We would really like our graduates to opt for professions of technical nature after leaving school so that they could then get a job with one of the enterprises in our district. We find such training sessions to be very important to us, as they are not constrained within a standard curriculum but go beyond it, allowing to pursue additional practical goals and objectives, Elena Kulikova, Blagoveshchensk District’s Deputy Head Responsible for Social Issues, emphasized.

This year's Science Sessions are being held in eight cities where SIBUR has operations. While Dzerzhinsk was the first city to conduct the sessions, the program will also be hosted by Gubkinsky, Tomsk, Nyagan, Pyt-Yakh, and Blagoveshchensk (Bashkortostan).
