Bridges that connect: an art festival of street art is being hosted by Nizhnevartovsk

13 august 2021

A project aimed at supporting and developing artistic ideas of the city’s creative scene is currently being implemented in Nizhnevartovsk. The idea of holding the art festival called Bridges was supported via a grant contest of SIBUR's Formula for Good Deeds social investment program.

From June through September, artists will work on creating new art objects in the capital of the Samotlor area. The project’s aim is to give artists a chance to express themselves legally and spruce Nizhnevartovsk up. The chance to rethink and transform the city’s urban space was offered not only to artists from Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug but also to artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Podolsk, Magnitogorsk and Orenburg. In September, in addition to the ten sites originally slated to be part of the fest’s program, street art maestros will create nine more and decorate five building facades.

At the root of the project is the idea of making a connection between street artists and property owners. Creativity and the need to get a permit can often go crosswise. We want to build bridges of understanding, to create the kind of environment that street artists are eager to see grow. It’s about building a bridge between absolutely unlike sectors, Andrey Olkhovsky, the project’s manager, noted. In addition to their presentations and art, artists will put on an educational program for the local residents that will be hosted by the art residence site. Information about the educational program will be posted at the festival’s Instagram account.

Street art is a chance to showcase one’s creative abilities. The BRIDGES Festival allows young people to create within the bounds of the law and introduce local residents to current art trends while transforming the space around them. Such projects inure the younger generation to the idea of conscious participation in the life and culture of their native land, Sergei Vinokhodov, Advisor to the General Director for Government Relations of JSC SiburTyumenGaz, commented.
