Tobolfilm’s outdoor film screenings brought more than 300 viewers

24 august 2023

The Tobolfilm project culminated in several screenings of films featured in the program of the Alafey Hill festival of contemporary Russian cinema. Some 300 viewers watched the festival's movies at the screenings arranged outdoors on the grounds of the Tobol Theme Park over the course of two days. The project was made possible thanks to the support of SIBUR's social investment program, the Formula for Good Deeds.

The Tobolfilm project culminated in screenings of festival films at the Tobol Theme Park. The viewings of the films featured at the Alafey Hill Festival of contemporary Russian cinema were open to everyone on August 19 and 20 at the Tobol Theme Park's outdoor movie theater. The spectators got to see three films: "Amusing Incidents", "Lingshui's Song", and "Lyricisms".

Elena Belskaya, Director of Government Relations and Socioeconomic Projects at ZapSibNeftekhim LLC:

SIBUR finds it important to merge narratives, and so in the Tobolfilm project we saw a chance to bring together the spaces at the Tobol Park, the event's substantive program featuring contemporary cinema, and the people, both the films’ authors and spectators. Thanks to this formula, we have managed to create successful projects that become magnets for residents and tourists alike.

Marina Fedorova, spectator (St. Petersburg):

It was an unanticipated nice surprise to be able to watch a movie while visiting the Tobol Park! There was this wonderful outdoor movie theater located smack in the middle of nowhere, literally. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of the sound, the picture and the film’s content, which is equally important!!! After watching a feature film, we stayed on to watch a documentary about the filming of "Tobol". Following that, we went on a tour of what once served as the movie set which allowed us to look at the Tobol theme park as if through a new set of eyes. Many thanks to the organizers. We will be sure to come back!

Alongside that, another separate activity of the project involved exclusive master classes for actors, directors and cameramen held on the grounds of the Tobol theme park. More than 70 participants from around Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and Tyumen Oblast attended them. Yelena Borzova, a theater and film actress and director, gave a master class on public speaking. Alexander Negruk, a member of the Union of Cinematographers, introduced the audience to the work of a cameraman. The attendees took part in a master class on stage fighting taught by Vladislav Shklyaev, a member of the Guild of Russian Film Actors. The students of the master classes were later invited to act as extras in a short feature film titled "Once Upon a Time in Tobolsk".

Sergei Novozhilov, President of the Alafey Hill Film Festival:

It has been a true pleasure to collaborate with Tobolfilm! Those eight days that we spent in the city of Tobolsk as we were shooting our collaborative picture "Once Upon a Time in Tobolsk" were among the most amazing, because the two crews from Moscow and Tobolsk shared a good understanding. Everything was handled quickly, expeditiously, and with top quality. That's why nobody wanted to say good buy to each other! I am convinced that we will turn out a great movie about the beautiful Tobolsk!

Anastasia Romanova, director of the Tobol Theme Park:

It is very gratifying to see people and companies who are ready to support filmmaking, who are ready to join us in new projects, and who can see the promise that they offer. The Tobolfilm project is an alliance of creative people from the movie industry that set the proper patriotic tone, offer great promise, and who help strengthen the unity of the professional community.

The film will premiere as part of the Alafey Hill 2024, a festival of modern and contemporary Russian cinema.

Maria Trofimova, Director of Tyumen Oblast's Consumer Market and Tourism Department:

We need new areas of focus and projects that will attract the attention of our visitors, help build our recreational program so as to make such a location as the Tobol Theme Park a very attractive place to visit for all guests of Tobolsk. This is proper cinema tourism, and not only in terms of attracting visitors to the park per se and to the film set as this also represents a location that attracts professional audiences. In that sense, the Tobolfilm project, that is being implemented with the support of SIBUR, is now closing the circle of tourism in the park itself for the benefit of diverse target audiences. This is a new step in our development, a new advance and, in general, a serious milestone in turning the city of Tobolsk and Tyumen Oblast into a region where cinema tourism can thrive in all its aspects and forms.
