Participants of Clean Games in Noyabrsk picked up two and a half tons of trash

31 august 2023

Scrap metal, old linoleum, truck tires, empty glass bottles and plastic waste were among some of the items collected by the participants of the Clean Games, an environmental tournament held on Saturday, August 26, in Noyabrsk with the support of SIBUR's Formula for Good Deeds. Within the one and a half hours that the active phase of the tournament lasted, the contestants cleared the wooded area along Muravlenko Street of trash.

Instead of the customary warm-up, the contest was preceded by a real zumba workout led by Vera Stepanova, a certified zumba and LDFA instructor. Following that, the contestants started their search. The Clean Games were joined by many eco-conscious Noyabrsk residents including schoolchildren, students, work squads led by the head of the city of Noyabrsk, volunteers, silver volunteers, and employees of the city's various organizations. Some of the contestants brought their whole families to the cleanup. In just one hour and thirty minutes, 33 teams of 111 people picked up and sorted 2,408 kilograms of trash.

It rained non-stop throughout the entire event, but that didn't deter the locals. The competition's results were impressive: 252 bags of garbage, 432 kg of oversized items, 103 kg worth of tires, and even 31 batteries! Each type of garbage was sorted through and handed over to the volunteers who worked at the warehouses. Some of the most unusual finds included several cases of empty "Cheburashka" bottles and a pair of brand-new kirza boots. Following the final cue, the participants of the quest were served pies and hot tea.

The overall victory was claimed by the Vector volunteering team from Noyabrsk's AIDS Center, whereas Gazprom Dobycha Noyabrsk's #GAZ_activ team of volunteers became the best in the artifact collection category. The second and third places were taken by a team of Noyabrsk youths "Make Way for the Teacher" and a combined youth team of "SiburTyumenGaz" and "Zapsibtransgaz", respectively.

The Clean Games were held with the support of The Formula for Good Deeds, SIBUR's social investment program. The eco-contest was organized by the Cadet Resource Center for Volunteering and Patriotic Education in partnership with the city’s volunteering center and Noyabrsk City Administration’s Department of Youth Policy and Tourism.

Irina Mochalova, lead environmental engineer at SiburTyumenGas:
This was an excellent opportunity for us to help our environment and spend time in a way that is good for our own health. I would like to thank all the participants who could find the time to join our environmental campaign and make a contribution to protecting the environment. It is crucial for SiburTyumenGas to support initiatives that aim to preserve the region's environment, biodiversity, and tackle climate issues.

Maria Zyryanova, the contest's organizer, an expert in youth affairs at Cadet Resource Center:
This is the second edition of the Clean Games this year. Back in June, 5 tons of garbage were collected at the same site with 90 people in attendance. There is a trend towards greater participation in campaigns that seek to collect and sort garbage. We are very glad that our games are being joined by local organizations and major enterprises. Events such as this contribute to promoting environmental education of the public, showcasing the culture of conscious consumption. Clean games are equally interesting both for children and for people of advanced age, which helps facilitate dialog between generations.
