Tyumen Oblast to hold a training camp session for young basketball talents

2 july 2021

Novoye Pokoleniye (Russian for New Generation), a regional center on a mission to scout for and support gifted children (modelling its practices on those of "Sirius" Educational Center) will hold a free sports-and-education program for schoolchildren dubbed disportum scheduled to take place in Tyumen Oblast on July 2 to 8. The offsite camp session intended for 100 athletes aged 11-14 will be hosted by the "Kids’ Republic" compound.

Basketball was chosen as one of the disciplines on disportum’s program. Tyumen Oblast’s best athletes are expected to attend the session to acquire new skills. Regional- and national-caliber coaches will help junior athletes master advanced athletic skills, game-playing tactics and hone up their personal skills through various teambuilding activities. All participants of the project will be included in the long list of candidates for regional-level teams in their respective age groups whereas the top performers will be promoted to the Gold Reserve of the national junior team.

The program will include an online talk by Sergey Bykov, an Honored Master of Sports, a European Champion, and the ambassador and leader of SIBUR's basketball development program in the regions where the company has operations. SIBUR became a partner of the 2021 disportum school. The company’s involvement in the project has become SIBUR’s yet another strategic step towards further expansion of its program of supporting children's and youth’s basketball, something it has been implementing in its presence regions since 2014 as part of the Formula for Good Deeds social investment program.

disportum has been helpful in scouting for and supporting talented young basketball players and in providing them with opportunities for further development, Sergey Bykov, the project’s supervisor, noted. The program’s format allows it to serve as an effective resource for upward mobility, a kind of a springboard for gifted kids who may in time become members of regional teams and continue their further growth there.

Regional Center New Generation has been managing this intensive basketball training program since 2020. It has been delivering excellent results. What makes this program unique is its content which includes development of athletes’ game-playing skills, training of focus, and shaping a champion’s mindset. Schoolchildren need opportunities for growth, they need to learn from the best, and it is our mission to create the right environment for this to happen, Tatiana Veshkurtseva, Director of New Generation, Tyumen Oblast’s regional center for scouting for and supporting gifted children, commented.
