Regional Qualifying Round of the Prestigious V.I. Vernadsky Contest Held in Tobolsk with SIBUR’s Support

15 march 2021

Tobolsk hosted the 6th Edition of the Tyumen Oblast’s Regional V.I. Vernadsky Contest of Research Papers by Junior Researchers. This SIBUR-supported contest featured 26 entries by students researchers.

The papers presented by the young researchers went through a review by experts representing the All-Russian V.I. Vernadsky Contest and SIBUR's Formula for Good Deeds program, as well as by employees of the Tobolsk Multidisciplinary Research Station, and experts from the region’s universities. The authors of the winning research papers will go on to take part in the National Stage of the Contest.

We are gratified that such a momentous scientific event is taking place in Tobolsk. The contest saw schoolchildren present many interesting and important research papers, including environment-focused ones. We hope that young researchers will continue exploring our world, share their discoveries, and that together we will be taking care of our environment on the basis of scientific knowledge, said Elena Belskaya, Head of ZapSibNeftekhim’s Government Relations Department.

At the conference’s special educational session, Yulia Gorelova, an expert with the Formula for Good Deeds program and Director of “Birds and People”, a non-profit partnership, introduced the teachers in attendance to the secrets of creating successful educational and research papers, while Alexei Obukhov, Head of V.I. Vernadsky All-Russian Contest’s scientific program spoke to the students about how to properly choose their research topic and how to make their research not only a scientific, but also an exciting endeavor. The conference’s participants and guests were apprised of the near-term plans of such projects as "The Territory of the Northern Lapwing" and "Tobolsk’s Forest". These projects are being implemented by SIBUR in Tyumen Oblast under the auspices of the Formula for Good Deeds program. The attendees were invited to take an active part in the projects’ campaigns and activities.

This yea, the V. I. Vernadsky Tyumen Oblast’s Regional Contest of Research Papers by Junior Researchers returned to Tobolsk, Siberia’s ancient capital, that hosted the contest’s first three original editions. And this is not at all fortuitous, considering that, historically, the very first school to appear to the east of the Urals was opened here in Tobolsk. We would like to thank SIBUR for their support of this event that brings together the region’s budding researchers and offers Tyumen’s schoolchildren an opportunity to participate in the prestigious All-Russian Stage of the Contest that will be held in Moscow, said Alexander Valitov, Chairman of the Conference’s Organizing Committee.
