Movies produced by participants of the Kinomolodost (Cinema Youth) children's film camp are featured in the online START movie theater

28 december 2022

Kinomolodost is a free three-month-long film camp for children and teenagers where the students get to learn the basics of filmmaking. The camp’s program was put together by celebrated icons of Russia’s cinema scene. The project is being implemented by a company called MEM.MEDIA with the support of the Formula for Good Deeds, SIBUR's social investment program.

Since 2022, Kinomolodost has also been supporting START, an online movie theater. This platform has already been used for releasing films made by the film camp’s talented participants, with several more films scheduled to be featured next year as well.

Right now, the online movie theater’s website features four of the project’s films, with two of them, "Hotel Brown" and "Fedka Kuplenny", having been short-listed at the Dream film festival and having won several awards at other international film festivals. The lead roles in these movies were played by such renowned comedians and actors as Denis Dorokhov and Stas Yarushin.

Ekaterina Leneva, the director of "Fedka Kuplenny", won the Dream’s Grand Prix in the "Under 18 Film Directors” category. Bozhena Glumina, the youngest participant of the Kinomolodost project and portrayer of one of the film’s main characters won the Best Female Actress award in the Young Adult category at the Children's International Film Festival of Wales in London. The film also won the top prize in the feature film category at the International KidsNFilm Festival in Vallejo, USA.
In turn, "Hotel Brown" won the Best Youth-Made Film award at the San Diego International Kids' Film Festival in San Diego, CA..

Projects like Kinomolodost are an excellent opportunity for children from Russia’s cities to become exposed to the world of cinema, discover their talents and make themselves known throughout the country. And, of course, the fact that the films made by these young filmmakers are now available online to be watched by anyone, alongside high-profile new releases or timeless classics, marks an important step in the project’s development. I'm confident it will inspire children to create new memorable and worthy movies, Elena Snezhko, Head of the Formula for Good Deeds social investment program, noted.

Kinomolodost was launched in 2021 and involved 35 participants from the cities of Nizhny Novgorod and Kstovo. Under the guidance of their mentors, the budding filmmakers were learning the skills of film directing, scriptwriting and camerawork. Their hard work resulted in five short films. The three best of the movies were sent by the camp’s organizers to 25 different festivals around the world. In 2022, 39 students from Svobodny were introduced to the various professions from the world of moviemaking.
