SIBUR has unveiled the results of the 6th annual bird feeder photo contest, traditionally held with the support of the Formula for Good Deeds
social investment program as part of the environmental project called The Land of the Lapwing. This year’s contest received over 350 submissions from residents of the cities where the company conducts its operations, including Blagoveshchensk in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Nizhnevartovsk, Tobolsk, Tomsk, and Svobodny.

The contest seeks to highlight the importance of caring for wintering birds and to demonstrate how simple, yet properly built feeders can become a real lifeline for birds trying to survive the cold season. In appraising the contest’s entries, the jury, comprised of SIBUR’s representatives and expert ornithologists, paid particular attention to the feeders' compliance with all applicable standards, the originality of their design, and the quality of photographs.

This year around, the judging panel had to cope with the heretofore unmatched high quality of competing entries. The contestants had not only met all basic requirements but all thought through their designs to the minutest detail, combining functionality with creativity, and demonstrating a profound appreciation of wintering birds' needs. It was precisely for this reason, that it was decided, for the first time in the contest's history, to introduce a special prize, the Grand Prix, for those participants whose submissions stood out due to their exceptional quality across several criteria at once and, therefore, deserved recognition above and beyond earning the customary winning awards.

All entries fell into either of the three following categories:

“Each year, the contest of bird feeder photographs surprises us with the increasingly mindful approach demonstrated by the contestants. They do not just built pretty-looking products. Instead, they do their research to find out how to help the birds properly, how to make their feeders safe and useful. This kind of active engagement impacts the ecosystem of our cities and suburbs in the most direct way. For six years in a row, we have been observing how a seemingly minor act of kindness evolves into something that becomes a part of a broader environmental culture, and that is really inspiring.”
