<span style="color: #575757;">It is a tale for audiences of all generations. The Princess, the Troubadour and a funny quartet of animals have been audiences’ favorites for decades. The Mossovet Theatre has decided to reimagine the popular animated film and put it on stage. The show’s libretto written by Yuri Entin, Georgy Gladkov and Vasily Livanov was chosen as the musical’s baseline. Although it has only been in the theater's repertoire for a year it has already become a hit. The popular production doesn’t tour that often, so Tobolsk was fortunate to see it.</span>

“It is a rare treat for us to go somewhere, especially if it involves traveling not to a major city, to a venue filled with thousands of spectators, but to such a private, tidy, and tender location. We toured the local Kremlin, felt the true Siberian nippy weather. But, despite the cold weather outside, you could sense this amazing warmth in relations between people here”.</span></i>

<span style="color: #575757;">There was warmth inside the theater’s walls as well. The spectators were greeted with coloring books featuring their favorite characters and treated to tasty mandarin oranges. The familiar plot had been changed somewhat: the action is now controlled by the Jester, a pun-loving character, whereas the female gang leader was replaced with a queen on the run. And the characters' costumes, colorful and stylish, were a far cry from the familiar ones. But the popular songs remained the same. There was confetti sprinkled generously all over the stage, plus members of the audience were given a chance to engage in a pillow fight with the actors on the stage, and of course, friendship and love ultimately prevailed.</span>

<span style="color: #575757;">Andrei Mezhulis first visited Tobolsk last spring to take part in the Alafey Hill Festival and he was happy to come back again bringing with him such a truly exuberant production. “When we perform in this show, it's hard to say who is enjoying it more, the kids or their parents. The parents and grandparents are so ecstatic that they don't even notice how their facial expressions change. They jump up and down, sing along, make gestures, and overall act just like their grandchildren and children sitting next to them.”</span>

Throughout the season, Tobolsk residents were treated to 17 creative performances brought to them from Moscow and St. Petersburg. These were seen by about 5,700 spectators, both from Tobolsk and from neighboring cities.<br>
