September 6 saw a volunteering event take place at the Kerzhensky Nature Reserve as part of the Living Symbols of SIBUR project. The event that was held as part of the company’s Formula for Good Deeds social investment program was joined by staff from Kstovo and Nizhny Novgorod, who brought along members of their families. They all lent their hand to improving specially protected nature areas of national stature.

The volunteers split up into two teams. One was charged with the task of leveling the ground which involved carrying and spreading sand to prepare the area, while the other was busy taking care of the breeding enclosure, which marks the first time when volunteers got involved in doing work in that area of the reserve. Their job was to spread out reindeer lichen - the primary source of food for the northern forest reindeer. Evenly distributed over the nursery’s grounds, the reindeer lichen would have a chance to take root and grow, creating a natural nutrition base for local animals.

Elena Snezhko, Head of SIBUR's Formula for Good Deeds social investment program:
"Volunteering campaigns at the Kerzhensky Nature Reserve have by now become a good tradition for us. For several years in a row, our employees have been providing tangible support to the reserve, including as part of the effort to help preserve local reindeer population. We feel it is important to be reliable partners of those who work day in and day out for the benefit of our nature. It is here, on the reserve’s grounds, that our sense of responsibility is felt particularly acutely as we realize that even a minute amount of one’s personal efforts can provide real benefits to the ecosystem."

IBUR has been an active supporter of the project seeking to restore the reindeer population in the Kerzhensky Nature Reserve in Nizhegorodskaya Oblast. In June 2024, SIBUR signed a cooperation agreement with the Kerzhensky Nature Reserve, which marks an important step in advancing the biodiversity conservation program implemented in the regions where the company has a presence. The project to restore the reindeer population is one of the flagship projects on SIBUR's environmental conservation agenda.

The environmental conservation agenda is a key element of SIBUR's ESG strategy. One of the organization’s most important goals is that of accelerated implementation of a number of related programs, including Living Symbols of SIBUR, and involvement of members of staff in carrying out volunteering projects. Sustainable development is one of the company’s strategic objectives aimed at improving the well-being of the people and at conserving the nature.

Initiatives such as these help strengthen the environmental culture within the company and serve to show the importance of one’s personal contribution to addressing environmental challenges.
