ZapSibNeftekhim’s employees took part in the Character of Steel Running Festival

9 june 2021

In early June, Tyumen hosted the Character of Steel running festival. This time it was attended by about two thousand people from 32 cities, including Moscow and Vladivostok. The age of participants ranged from 3 to 66. The distances they competed on included 1 km, 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km. As part of the nation-wide half-marathon race titled "Zabeg.RF", its participants could also choose to run the distance of 21 km. The festival ended with a 3 km color run where runners were sprinkled with dried colored "Holi" powder at the start. The number of participating athletes grows every year. SIBUR was represented by 22 employees and 6 children who took part in the Character of Steel Race and in the Zabeg.RF event.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the runners’ packages: it contained a huge and beautiful finisher's medal and a flashy T-shirt. It was hot in Tyumen on the race day and so it was not easy to run 21 kilometers, but this only added to the acuity of one’s senses and hunger for victory. At all times, there were volunteers posted along the race course offering runners cool water and juicy oranges. Another pleasant addition to the race were makeshift “showers" in the form of fire trucks and street flushers. The race will be remembered for its warmth and bright colors. The festival also included children's races offering happy little heroes a chance to cross the finishing line with broad smiles on their faces. Thank you very much for organizing our transfer to Tyumen and back, Ekaterina Cherepanova, chief expert of ZapSibNeftekhim's Project Preparation and Coordination Department, noted.

I've been taking part in Character of Steel events for three years. This year we traveled to the race in Tyumen with our youngest son. He ran 1 km with adults and 500 m with other children and came home with two medals. This Character of Steel Race, as well as all the previous ones, was organized perfectly. Such events are a great opportunity not only to participate in an athletic event and show one’s own athletic prowess, but also to get one’s family members, children, relatives and friends involved. Outdoor activities are especially important now, after the partial lifting of restrictions necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic, and as a sign of gradual return to our normal pre-COVID-19 lives. It's great that such events take place in our region, Kristina Kashtanova, a Category 5 chemical laboratory analyst at ZapSibNeftekhim's Central Plant Laboratory, commented.
