Tobolsk residents are offered to conquer the vertical world

10 june 2021

Ice baths, mud pits, trenches, barbed wire, battlements and barriers – these are some fo the trials that await Tobolsk residents on June 19 at the extreme " Character of Steel" race.

The event’s organizers have prepared 4 obstacle courses of varying complexity for its participants. The longest distance course (9 km) will comprise more than 20 obstacles, some of them being featured for the first time. These obstacles may be passed both individually and as a team.

To pass the "Ice Baths" test, participants will have to plunge themselves into 1.5-meter-deep tanks of ice-cold water. After that, even the cold air outside would seem hot.

To overcome one’s fear of heights, one might want to try to clear "The Vertical World", an obstacle featuring a 4.8-meter-high wall one would have to climb over using ropes and the help of teammates. The same approach will be needed when passing the “ramp”, a 4-meter-high climb with a 45-degree slope.

The Blob, a two-meter-thick cushion, will make anyone who decides to climb it in a single push break a sweat. It only seems soft and pleasant, but it will push away anyone who tries to take it by storm. You can't make it there without the help of your teammates.

There can be no illusion that anyone will be able to leave the race still wearing clean clothes. Dirty Dancing, an obstacle featuring dozens of hard-to-climb-out-of (and equally hard-to-climb-into) pits filled with water and mud, awaits the racers on the course.

Registration for the event is open on the project’s website.

This year, Tobolsk residents will be challenged by new obstacles along the course of the extreme Character of Steel race supported by SIBUR and the Foundation for Promoting Sports. The Character of Steel has been popular among Tobolsk’s residents for many years who have been showing initiative in battling through these athletic challenges and obstacles, Elena Belskaya, head of ZapSibNeftekhim's Government Relations Department, noted.

This is the fourth year that the project has been implemented in Tobolsk by the Foundation for Promoting Sports with the assistance of Tyumen Oblast’s Government, Tobolsk’s City Administration, and SIBUR as part of the Formula for Good Deeds social investment program.
