The long‑awaited summer break is finally here and it is as useful as it is fun for Tobolsk’s school students. On Monday, the city saw SIBUR launch its <i>Science Sessions</i> here again, bringing together 130 school children aged 9 to 12. The week‑long educational project is designed to introduce the students to the fundamentals of engineering and modeling.

The program known as the <i>Engineering Workshop</i> features a meld of both theoretical and hands‑on classes focusing on designing various types of devices: functional models of aircraft, cars, Mars rovers, and even robots. Prior to the start of the course, each participant was issued a kit of consumables and tools. The students will be able to style their completed builds the way they see fit, and those who wish so will be offered to enroll their handcrafted models in a car race.

In addition, the students will explore the history behind the first automobiles, aircraft, space rockets, and modern watercraft. A separate session will be dedicated to building robots

We’ve already delved into the history of the automobile, while doing a refresher of the course on the history of the Ancient World the students just had completed at school. They’ll be learning to assemble various devices using tools and testing their performance in different ways, while recalling the course on the basic laws of physics.”</i>

This edutainment session’s curriculum was developed by <i>Ship Puz</i>, Moscow's top experts in supplemental education. The primary goal of the engineering workshop is to teach the students such relevant skills as logical thinking, technical acuity, etc.
