Nizhegorodskaya Oblast to host SIBUR’s Leadership Code Forum for entrepreneurs

19 may 2021

Dzerzhinsk and Kstovo will be hosting Leadership Code, a business forum, on June 2 and 3, and June 4, respectively. The forum’s target audience incudes representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises as well as those who are just considering opening their own business. The event will be supported by SIBUR as part of the company’s social investment program, the Formula for Good Deeds, as well as by Dzerzhinsk Administration’s Department of Economic Development and Investment, and the Department of the Economy, Business Development and Investment Policy of Kstovo municipal district (Nizhegorodskaya Oblast). Registration for the forum is open at http://kodliderstva.ru/

Leadership Code’s mission is to stimulate the development of small businesses in the region by introducing entrepreneurs to the best business practices and by informing them about available measures of state support for small and medium enterprises. New business projects can be instrumental in helping make cities more convenient for their residents, as well as inspire would-be entrepreneurs to start their own business. All of the events of the Leadership Code Forum are designed to promote the development, financing and implementation of new solutions to the region’s social, cultural and environmental challenges.

The forum’s program includes lectures, seminars and round table discussions centering on relevant topics, as well as business games intended to help develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Among the forum’s speakers are leading experts and professors in the fields of finance, business law, marketing, PR, information technology and psychology of entrepreneurship. Participants of the forum will be able to not only listen to their speeches, but to also ask them specific questions about their own businesses, and exchange experiences and ideas with other attendees.

As part of the Forum, Dmitry Dmitriyev, a business consultant and MBA lecturer at RANEPA, MSU, CityBusinessSchool and Moscow International Higher Business School MIRBIS will give a talk titled "How to make money by knowing human psychology" and will also hold a coaching session for the forum’s participants entitled "How to start your own business and how to grow it" (only a limited number of seats is available).

Evgeny Klimov, Deputy General Director of Information Technology at Interfax and an expert of Skolkovo’s IT Cluster, will talk about key digitalization trends and IT technologies used by small business. Timur Layshev, Director of the "WOW! HOW?" Science Festival will help hone one’s presentation skills. Olga Trokhacheva, a litigation lawyer and professor with the Practical Jurisprudence Department at Kutafin Moscow State Law Academy, Smart and Talented, a business assistants’ school, and Fashion Factory School (a business school) will touch upon such important aspects of entrepreneurship as company defense strategies in potential disputes with contractors and customers, dealing with claims and contracts. The speaker will also talk about mediation and how it can help to effectively resolve disputes outside of court.

The participants of the forum will hear real stories of successful business startups. Founders and owners of effective business projects will present their own cases and provide practical recommendations on how to take one’s first steps toward starting a business. As an example, Yelena Moiseyeva, director of a London-based event-agency Chayka Events and the person behind Plants Club startup, will be analyzing the case of developing a successful business during a lockdown at a plenary session titled "Crisis as an opportunity".

A plenary session dedicated to the development of local tourism will be moderated by Dmitry Makarov, a poet, author, curator of educational programs, host of his own Scary Tales show on Dozhd TV channel, creator of #Polenovostream project, and a free audio guide to the "Polenovo" park and museum-reserve. Vladimir Shukhov, a descendant of the namesake Russian and Soviet engineer and architect who designed and built the hyperboloidal Shukhov Tower in Dzerzhinsk, the second highest tower of its kind after the Shabolovskaya Tower in Moscow, will be the event’s special guest. The title of his speech is "Vladimir Shukhov. A Success Formula”.

Several founders of Nizhegorodskaya Oblast-based business enterprises will share their experience in starting their own business with a focus on organizational, administrative, financial and legal aspects of implementing business projects in the region.

Development of small and medium enterprises is one of the region’s priorities. This means new jobs and tax revenues flowing to the budget. And, perhaps most importantly, this also contributes to improving people’s quality of life, improving our urban and social environment. This forum will be equally useful for those who have already had success in their business and those who only intend to start one, Natalia Ganina, Head of the Department of Economy, Business Development and Investment Policy of Kstovo Municipal District Administration, commented.

Being an entrepreneur is both a great responsibility and a calculated risk. But, that said, it’s also quite a blessing, because you get to learn a lot and, as a rule, you do it throughout your entire life. Small businesses, unlike large ones, cannot afford to keep an extra staff of experts on every subject. More often than not, the owner of a small business or a sole proprietor has to be an expert on a variety of topics, ranging from advertising and SMM to legal nuances that arise, for example, when drafting and entering into contracts. Thanks to the Leadership Code’s program and SIBUR’s support of the forum, we, as the team of speakers, will be able to share our valuable knowledge with representatives of small businesses, which I hope they will find to be useful in their day-to-day operations, Olga Trokhacheva, a litigation lawyer and lecturer at the Department of Practical Jurisprudence at the Kutafin Moscow State Law Academy, noted.

This forum can become the very platform that will bring together enterprising people who care about their environment and are ready to improve it via their business projects. This is a place where they can interact with each other, absorb positive emotions and get new ideas, Stanislav Kasparov, Director of Business Support in the Regions of SIBUR's Presence, commented. SIBUR has been devoting a lot of attention, time and resources to making sure that local business initiatives are developed in the cities where the company is present, so that the seed of entrepreneurship would germinate and bear fruit in the form of new successful business start-ups. By virtue of interacting with local communities with a view to achieving these goals, we can see that there are a lot of ideas out there, that people are enterprising and full of initiative, and that they want to change the world around them for the better. Our task is to support them in these endeavors.
