The Moscow Design Museum has Opened its "Fantastic Plastic" Exhibition in Austria’s Graz

12 may 2021

On May 8, 2021, the Moscow Design Museum and a local company Creative Industries Styria inaugurated the "Fantastic Plastic" exhibition as part of the Design Month Graz festival. In 2011, the Austrian city of Graz was named a UNESCO City of Design and it has retained this status to this day. Design Month Graz is the largest annual event in the field of design that brings together projects from all over the world.

The "Fantastic Plastic" exhibition in Graz features works of 27 participants from various countries, including those presented by Russian designers: Galina Larina, Bulyash Todaeva, Maria Puchkova, Sasha Polyarus, and Ekaterina Lukyanova. These include furniture and items of interior design, apparel, bags, and faux jewelry made of recycled plastics.

The exhibition’s objective is to draw attention to plastics as a material with 100% recycling potential, with a focus on preserving the environment and the Earth’s natural resources and on building a circular economy. Today’s designers are increasingly involved in addressing environmental problems, with many of them being convinced that recycled plastics will become the main material of the 21st century.

The idea for the exhibition was suggested by the Moscow Design Museum. As part of SIBUR's Formula for Good Deeds social investment program, the project has already been shown in Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Voronezh, and Ufa. In addition, the exhibition will be on display at the State Tretyakov Gallery (at the West wing of the New Tretyakov Gallery at Krymsky Val, 10) until May 30.

The exhibition was organized by the Moscow Design Museum, Design Month Graz, and Creative Industries Styria.
