Tobolsk has once again hosted a one-of-a-kind Character of Steel extreme race. This was the fifth installment of the race that was held at the Alemasova Resort this year. The project has been enjoying SIBUR’s support as part of its Formula for Good Deeds social investment program.

More than 1,000 people came to the race. Apart from Tobolsk’s own residents, the sporting event drew athletes from as far as Yekaterinburg, Tarko-Sale, Kurgan, Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, and Tyumen wishing to test their mettle. This year, an 11-km race route complete with 25 obstacles of varying complexity was laid out for the Character of Steel’s contestants, a first for Alemasova. There were also four more additional obstacle courses measuring 3, 5, 7, and 9 km in length.

SIBUR is known for its comprehensive approach to improving the social climate in the areas where it has operations, paying particular attention to promoting sports and healthy living. The Extreme race is just one of the projects that we have been implementing for the benefit of Tobolsk’s residents. Thanks to our sports events’ diverse formats, we have been able to provide everyone with an opportunity to participate and prove their worth, Elena Belskaya, Head of ZapSibNeftekhim's Department for Government Relations and Socio- Economic Projects.

Tobolsk became one of several Russian cities that will be hosting the 2022 Summer Series of the extreme Character of Steel race. After this, the races are expected to be held in Tomsk, Omsk, Perm, and Tyumen.

The race was great!, Tatyana Spirina, a member of Nizhnevartovsk’s Azimut team, noted. The Character of Steel is not just an opportunity to test one’s strength or build up your team’s spirit. It helps bring out individual personality traits of each participant and it really shows everyone’s true worth. The challenges of the race force you to show who you really are. In that respect, I feel that I was very fortune with my team where everyone is a larger-than-life character! I'm sure that we'll take part in next year’s race, too.
