The Timofey Mozgov Cup tournament drew to a close in Tobolsk

16 may 2022

A basketball festival took place in Tobolsk’s Central Sports Arena. Tobolsk once again became the venue for the Timofey Mozgov Cup, the tournament that has been taking place since 2011, the final stage of the Urals and Siberia VITA basketball league tournament. The first 7 editions of the basketball tournaments were held in St. Petersburg, followed by two more in Tyumen in 2017 and 2018, and one in Tobolsk in 2019, for the first time.

The tournament that everyone had been really looking forward to was held on May 10 to 13 with SIBUR’s support as part of its Formula for Good Deeds social investment program. It brought together over 400 participants from the Urals and Siberia. The tournament’s list of guests included such renowned basketball players as Pyotr Gubanov and Victor Keiru, as well as Igor Kamensky, deputy director of the Regional Development Department at the Russian Basketball Federation.

Tobolsk greeted us with great weather, much better than the weather in Moscow. My impressions of Tobolsk are nothing but positive. The city’s Kremlin was marvelous, it's a tidy city with a basketball infrastructure that rivals that of Moscow, professional Russian basketball player Viktor Keiru commented.

I was pleased with the top-notch organization of the tournament. I had known that everything would be perfect but I couldn't really imagine that it would be that great! The city’s infrastructure is very sound, and local kids have everything they need to grow and develop as players, Igor Kamensky, noted.

We are planning to increase the number of competing teams starting with next season, Dmitry Nosov, president of Vita Basketball League, shared his plans.

Support for sports is one of the key focus areas of SIBUR`s social investment program, the Formula for Good Deeds. Every year, the company has been supporting Tobolsk in hosting various national and regional-level competitions offering Tyumen Oblast’s children and youths an opportunity to engage in sports, grow as athletes and attain lofty goals without having to leave their native city, Elena Belskaya, head of ZapSibNeftekhim’s Department of Government Relations and of Socio-Economic Projects, shared.
