The Fourth Season of the "Poetry Territory" project is over

18 march 2021

On March 12, 2021, the Omsk Philharmonic hosted a show titled "Mayakovsky. Zabolotsky. Two poets of their time". The show marked the end of the fourth season of the Poetry Territory, a joint cultural initiative carried out in Russia’s regions by "Territoriya", the International Contemporary Art Festival and School, and by SIBUR.

The music and poetry performance was based on poems by Mayakovsky and Zabolotsky, and featured music written by some the most celebrated Russian composers of the 19th and 20th centuries: Rachmaninov, Metner, Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich. The poems were recited by Alexander Galibin, a People's Artist of Russia, while the music was performed by violin player Elena Revich and pianist Polina Osetinskaya.

The show was very well received by the Omsk residents, for many of whom this was the first exposure to this format of a performance. After the show, some of the spectators were eager to share the impressions of the evening:

Olga:

This blend of music and poetry is a veritable artform.

Valentin:

Mayakovsky had always seemed like a slogan-type poet to me because of how blunt and direct his poetry can be. This show accorded me an opportunity to see his poetry in a different light, and also to discover a completely unknown Zabolotsky.

Anna:

By the end of the show, I rose to my feet to applaud the performers. It was quite moving. I'm in awe and am very grateful to the actors for the show!

Galina:

I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the show’s performers and organizers, and to everyone involved in putting on this performance. It's hard to say something of substance right away, I am overcome with emotions. I would like to see shows like this more often.

The actors also shared their impressions of the show.

The venue was chosen wisely. The auditorium is fairly compact and it gives you the feeling of being in contact with every single spectator, said Alexander Galibin. We were very happy to be here in Omsk. It was gratifying to see how moved our audience was. That means that everything had worked out well. It is good to see that the Poetry Territory is expanding its geography covering more cities, more venues, with more encounters with our spectators.

We work with Territoriya in Moscow, we've already been to Tobolsk and Magadan, and we have now been to Omsk, too, commented Polina Osetinskaya. I personally like the composition of our performance’s program a lot: Beethoven, Metner, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Stravinsky... I’d like to believe that this production will be enjoying a happy life on stage.

The Poetry Territory project is carried out as part of the Culture focus area of the Formula for Good Deeds, SIBUR's social investment program. This was the first time the city of Omsk took part in the project.

This was the first event conducted in Omsk under the auspices of The Formula for Good Deeds, SIBUR's social investment program, noted Igor Tikhonov, General Director of the Polyom plant (a joint venture between Gazprom Neft and SIBUR). It featured a full house and a warm reception with the audience not wanting to let the actors leave the stage for a long time. This is direct proof that Omsk residents really enjoyed this format. This is a truly momentous event for the region’s cultural scene.

The show in Omsk brought the fourth season of the Poetry Territory project to a close. Despite the tough epidemiological circumstances, all scheduled performances of the season did take place. The season opened in Tomsk on October 25, 2020 with a production of Dmitry Serdyuk's play "Akhmatova. The Witness”. On November 21, 2020, Perm’s Private Philharmonic “Triumph” saw Anatoly Bely and Alyona Babenko perform in a music and poetry program entitled "Kino-poetry." On February 20, 2021, Kstovo hosted a poetry evening "It will come to pass" featuring Alisa Grebenshchikova and Sergey Geokchayev. The season was brought to a close in Omsk on March 12, 2021 with the show "Mayakovsky. Zabolotsky. Two Poets of Their Time".
