Omsk’s residents invited to Poetry Territory

1 march 2021

On March 12, Omsk Philharmonic’s Organ Hall will be featuring "Mayakovsky. Zabolotsky. Two poets of their era", a music and poetry performance presented as part of the Poetry Territory, a joint cultural initiative spearheaded jointly by SIBUR and the international contemporary art festival and school under the name of "Territory".

The Poetry Territory is one of the pieces of the Formula for Good Deeds, SIBUR's social investment program. It features a series of music and poetry performances that are hosted by the cities where the petrochemical company has a presence. In 2021, the project’s geography expanded outside of Tobolsk: it now includes Omsk, home to Polyom, a joint venture between SIBUR and Gazprom Neft.

Ekaterina Yakimova, Director of the Territory Festival: In 2020 and 2021 the Poetry Territory will be hosted by four cities: Tomsk, Perm, Kstovo, and Omsk. Our spectators will be fortunate to enjoy a very interesting program. All the performers are excellent reciters of poetry capable of discovering the proper and unique intonation and a profound innate drama in a poetic text.

The Poetry Territory is on a mission to acquaint Omsk’s theater goers with a contemporary theater of music and poetry. The show will star Alexander Galibin, a People's Artist of Russia, while the likes of violin player Elena Revich and pianist Polina Osetinskaya, both internationally celebrated performers, will be providing musical accompaniment.

The show will feature poems by two of the most important 20th century Russian poets, Vladimir Mayakovsky and Nikolai Zabolotsky, as well as excerpts from Zabolotsky's diaries and letters. Throughout the evening, music of Russian composers of the late 19th to mid-20th century -Rachmaninov, Metner, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich - will be played on stage.

Igor Tikhonov, General Director of Polyom: Promoting culture is one of SIBUR's and Gazprom Neft's social policy priorities and the same is also true for the Omsk Polypropylene Plant. The Poetry Territory is a multifaceted creative project that attracts different kinds of arts, and brings together different generations of performers who are proficient with the spoken word and with impersonating stage characters, as well as musical virtuosos. For Omsk citizens who number a lot of true connoisseurs of art among them this show will surely be a real treat.

Over the three years that the project has been going on, many celebrated actors and musicians have presented their poetic programs, including Alyona Babenko, Alexander Galibin, Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Irina Pegova, Veniamin Smekhov, Alexander Filippenko, Sergey Chonishvili, Alexei Aigi, Alexei Goribol, Yana Ivanilova, Maxim Rothschildand, and many others.

The show’s organizers are convinced that the Poetry Territory will turn out to be a memorable event on Omsk’s culture scene and that being able to experience the literary theater will be appreciated by local viewers. Tickets for the music and poetry performance have already gone on sale.
