Students of Tyumen State University hold classes for young Tyumen residents

8 october 2021

Tyumen, October 8. Tyumen State University’s students became the winners of SIBUR’s 3rd Grant Contest of Volunteering Projects with their project titled Berezhok. Within its framework, the students, working together with local artisans specializing in woodcarving, carpentry, glazed ceramic tiles, and with art critics, hold classes for young Tyumen residents where they introduce their students to wood, stone and metal carving techniques as well as teach them traditional Tyumen painting.

On October 10, the admission process for participating in the third edition of the Young Art Conservator’s School designed for children aged 7 to 13 will be launched. The school’s opening and the first master classes will be held in the Historical Russia is my history Park at 47 Ordzhonikidze St., Tyumen.

At the first meeting, which is to be held in the presentation format, young Tyumen residents will be introduced to the team of the Tom Sawyer Fest project, the study program and the school’s masters. Children will be taught traditional in-house painting techniques, go on a tour of the blacksmithing museum and master the paintwork on glazed tiles. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion from the Young Art Conservator’s School.

We have been holding our Young Art Conservator’s School classes for several years already, which attests to the project’s relevance and significance. My team and I are happy to get support from the Formula for Good Deeds program to achieve our educational goals. The children will get acquainted with traditional crafts, visit the famous blacksmithing museum, and will receive their certificates of completion and souvenirs at the closing ceremony, Natalia Voytkevich, a third-year student majoring in Museum Studies and Preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage at Tyumen State University, noted.

Background information:

Tom Sawyer Fest is a festival dedicated to conservation and restoration of the historical environment through the efforts of volunteers and sponsors. Much attention is given to restoring wooden houses. Most of the festival’s objects are buildings that do not enjoy a special protection status of an architectural monument or a historical heritage site. The project came to Russia in 2015, but it only reached Tyumen in 2018. Currently, it involves more than 60 cities in Russia and 4,000 participants.
