SIBUR presented its initiatives at the International Ecology Forum

28 may 2021

As part of SIBUR’s participation in the 12th International Ecology Forum, Elena Belskaya, Head of Government Relations at ZapSibNeftekhim LLC, spoke about two of the company’s environmental projects, Tobolsk Forest and The Land of Lapwings, that it had been implementing as part of its social investment program, the Formula for Good Deeds.

The Tobolsk Forest project was showcased as an example of a comprehensive approach to reforestation of a single region. Elena placed special emphasis on the educational aspect of SIBUR's environmental projects: the company's efforts are aimed at raising environmental awareness and responsibility among residents of the cities and towns where the company operates. The initiatives that were presented at the forum included planting of seedlings by volunteers, methodology-driven interactions with schoolchildren and their teachers in Tyumen Oblast regarding bird conservation and forest protection, and special bird protection measures on the grounds of ZapSibNeftekhim.

Over the three years that the Tobolsk Forest and the Land of Lapwing projects have been under implementation in Tyumen Oblast, we have accumulated a wealth of experience that may be interesting and useful for other companies. We consider it important to take part in such forums: this allows us to learn first-hand about the up-to-date environmental agenda and focus our efforts on new environmental aspects, Elena Belskaya commented.

The International Ecology Forum is one of the leading discussion platforms that sets guidelines for shaping public policy in the field of environmental protection as a result of an open dialogue between the government, society and business. The forum discusses Russia’s key environmental challenges.

One of our goals is to involve the business community, government agencies, and the public at large in jointly shaping Russia's environmental agenda. The business community can contribute to this discussion by sharing its practical experience in tackling environmental issues and best practices. At our forum, companies talk about their initiatives, they are heard by the authorities, they are heard by the media who help to replicate their experience, Alexander Basalaev, deputy director of the Public Ecology Forum non-profit, commented.

The key topics of the 2021 Forum included a discussion of dominant trends in Russia’s environmental development and other countries’ practices, raising environmental awareness and improving environmental education, and counteracting climate change.
