The first day of the races featured a presentation of a unique art object that became known known as "The Running Shoe” created by ZapSibNeftekhim specially for the Tobolsk Marathon. It replicates the silhouette of athletic footwear that used to be manufactured at the Tobolsk Petrochemical Plant a few decades ago. Back then, the desire to manufacture sport shoes was precipitated by the need to produce high-quality mass market goods at a time when main supply chains had been disrupted. The synthetic materials used then embodied the company’s pursuit of functionality, comfort, and superior athletic performance. The running shoe on display stands 5.7 meters tall, is 10 meters long, and weighs 2.5 tons. It took three months to produce. The interior of the art object houses a space where one can learn about the history of the evolution of state-of-the-art synthetic materials, the breadth of their use, and pathways for their recycling. After the end of the Tobolsk Marathon Race, the art object will be installed at the city's Tobol Arena.
