SIBUR supported career guidance quests for high school students

13 may 2022

Some 170 high students from Amur and Voronezh Oblasts took part in career guidance quests organized for them in the cities of Voronezh and Blagoveshchensk. The contestants vied for being called the best in planning their future, making critical decisions, finding appropriate resources for personal development, and charting a sound professional and educational development trajectory.

The quests are part of the interregional project titled Early Career Guidance for Students. It is being implemented with the support of SIBUR as part of its Formula for Good Deeds social investment program. As part of the project, more than 80 teachers from schools in Amur and Voronezh Oblasts went through specialized training and then used the knowledge they thus received to advise their nearly five thousand high school students on making choices about their future lives and careers.

At the start of the quest, participating teams were each assigned a game character endowed with a certain set of psychological and physical characteristics. The students had to design the future of this character in order to help him substitute his weaknesses with strengths, and acquire important life skills and professional competences. The resulting "development path" had to be presented in a creative way to the quest’s jury that included representatives of local facilities and of SIBUR, professional education establishment, as well as experts in socio-economic development of the region.

This quest represents an opportunity to learn from everything that had transpired at the lessons during the project. The participants had to take an objective look at a career-choosing dilemma, do a quick and unbiased analysis, and then apply the knowledge they had gained during the preceding year to the gaming case. It is very important that every decision made by the students was later commented on by members of the jury that was made up of the people whose life paths could well be used as a model of self-fulfillment by many, Leonid Zakharov, the project’s manager, noted.

In its interactions with schoolchildren and students, SIBUR is primarily focusing on the future, so as part of its Formula for Good Deeds and Sustainable Development Strategy the company has been actively supporting not only those initiatives that are aimed at expanding and acquiring knowledge, but also projects that seek to help the students develop sought-after skills and competencies while assisting teachers with using new education practices and methods, Gleb Fedotov, Head of Government Relations and Socio-Economic Development Projects at Amur GPP, commented.
